PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
President-Elect (2025-2026)
NAACP Washington, DC Branch
Greetings!

As the incoming President of the NAACP DC Branch, I am both humbled and delighted to continue the proud legacy of the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. For over 114 years, the NAACP has championed the fight for racial justice, advocating tirelessly for civil rights, racial equity, and environmental justice through political, educational, and economic empowerment. With more than 3 million members and 2,000 units nationwide, the NAACP has mobilized communities across the country to advance policies that ensure racial equity and health justice, while fighting for the protection and wellbeing of our most vulnerable populations.

The NAACP DC Branch represents over 2,000 members, 10,000 stakeholders, and partners—voting residents across all 8 wards of the District of Columbia. As an organization, we continue to push forward with our work to protect and advance the interests of African Americans in the District and across the nation. The DC NAACP remains a fierce advocate for transformative solutions that ensure Black lives are safe, healthy, thriving, and valued in all spaces.
As we look to the future, there is great work to be done here in the District of Columbia. Over the next two years, the DC NAACP is committed to highlighting and advancing key priorities, including:
-
Education and Innovation: Strengthening our schools and empowering our youth to become leaders of tomorrow.
-
Next Generation Leadership: Supporting the development of young leaders who will carry the torch of racial justice and community empowerment.
-
Health and Wellbeing: Ensuring equitable access to healthcare and addressing health disparities within our communities.
-
Policy and Legislation: Advocating for policies that protect the rights of African Americans and foster greater opportunity for all.
-
Environmental and Climate Justice: Addressing the intersection of racial justice and environmental concerns to ensure a healthy, sustainable future for all.

Connection is key to a leader’s success, and I look forward to working alongside the residents of Washington, D.C., and our many partners to ensure racial justice and equality in our city. Together, we will build a stronger, more equitable future for all. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our shared mission.

Sincerely,

Carmel Henry
